Abraham & Zacchaeus

Gen 18:6-8

Abrahams zeal for the Truth is the example for all true sons of Abraham.

3 keywords are used to describe the reaction of Abraham in providing hospitality to the three Angels who visited him.

Ran, Hastened, & stood.

Gen 18:2 he ran to meet them: Abraham ran unto the herd[7]

Gen 18:6 Abraham hastened into the tent

Gen 18:8 he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

Zacchaeus also Ran, Hastened, & stood.

Luk 19:4 He ran

Luk 19:4-5 Made haste

Luk 19:8 Stood.

Zacchaeus is described as a “son of Abraham.

Luk 19:9 And Jesus said unto him,” forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham”.

Zacchaeus was a true son of Abraham, —- by natural descent he was descended from Abraham, in the natural sense he had always been “A son of Abraham” —- but now there was a difference — he was now doing “the works of Abraham”

Joh 8:33-39 If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

Zacchaeus had shown the same spirit of hospitality as Abraham had shewed to the three angels that came to him in the plains of Mamre —- Joyfully received the Lord Jesus under his roof & showing hospitality to him & in so doing he showed the same disposition as Abraham had shown in entertaining Angels.

These three keywords link Abrahams hospitality to the Angels & Zacchaeus entertaining the Lord Jesus Christ, — they both showed the same spirit of the Truth.

Gen 18:2 ?It says of Abraham ” ?he ran to meet them from the tent-door: — Abraham was 99 years old yet “he ran to meet them”

Gen 18:6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah: — he showed a spirit of urgency, — “make ready quickly”, — “he ran unto the herd” —– Abraham Hastened.

Gen 18:8? and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. ?He stood by them, the attitude of a servant standing by to serve.

And Zacchaeus showed exactly the same spirit as he entertained Jesus, —- as Lord Jesus Christ says, “he also is a son of Abraham” — he did the works of Abraham, — he ran, — he hastened, & he stood.

Luk 19:4 And he ran before,

Luk 19:6 And he made haste

Luk 19:8 ?And Zacchaeus stood,

So by his works Zacchaeus showed that he was a true son of Abraham.

We must show in our lives the disposition of Abraham, & like Zacchaeus do we “run” “hasten” & “stand” in service to our Lord, — is the zeal of Abraham evident in our lives.

Have we the same attitude of mind that fervent response to the truth.

RUN.

Do we run to meet Jesus are we active in the truth — do we run to perform the things of the truth.

How do we run the race of life?

1Co 9:24-26 ?Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

Heb 12:1 ” let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Are we enthusiastic & full of a zeal for the Truth are we running that we might obtain the prize.

MAKE HASTE.

2Pe 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure:

2Pe 3:12?Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God,

The time is short, the day of opportunity passes quickly, — let us be urgent & hasten to prepare for the Kingdom.

STAND

So we must be steadfast & “stand” firm in our conviction & service to God.

Eph 6:13-14 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth,

2Co 1:24 Not for that we have dominion over your faith but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.

1Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Let us Run, Hasten & Stand in service to our Lord.
