Num 24:25

Balaam returned to his place.

Num 24:25 The record says Balaam ‘returned to his place’

But in the “Holy war” of Num 31:2 against the Midianites Balaam was slain.

Num 31:8 And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

Why was Balaam still associated with the Kings of Midian?

The answer is given when we remember Balaam counsel to Balak.

Mic 6:5 O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of the LORD.

In the next chapter.

Num 25:1 And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

Thus Balaam answer resulted in Israel committing whoredom with the daughters of Moab, 24000 died by plague & sword & Moses said. “Vex the Midianites & smite them”

The NT informs us that Balaam??s true motive was money.

2 Pet 2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

Jud 1:11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

Thus was revealed what was in Balaam’s heart, we must ensure we don??t follow the ??way of Balaam??.
