Zacchaeus, Son of Abraham.
Zacchaeus a son of Abraham,
We read the words of Jesus in
Luk 19:9 ?This day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham
Why did Jesus say “This day is Salvation come to this house” ?— two reasons.
1] Jesus in the Hebrew Yahshua means “Gods Salvation” — so Jesus Gods Salvation had indeed entered into his house.
2] But in addition this was the day of Zacchaeus conversion. — the day when one who was “lost” had returned to Gods House.
Zacchaeus was now a true son of Abraham, —- in a natural sense he had always been a “a son of Abraham” —- but now there was a difference — he was now doing “the works of Abraham”
Joh 8:33-39 If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
Zacchaeus had shown the same spirit of hospitality as Abraham had showed to the three angels that came to him in the plains of Mamre —- He Joyfully received The Lord Jesus under his roof & showed hospitality to him.
Three keywords that link Abraham’s hospitality to the Angels & Zacchaeus entertaining the Lord Jesus Christ, — they both showed the same spirit of the Truth.
Gen 18:2 ?It says of Abraham ” he ran to meet them from the tent door: — Abraham was 99 years old yet “he ran to meet them”
Gen 18:6 ?And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah: — he showed a spirit of urgency, — “make ready quickly”, — “he ran unto the herd” —– Abraham Hastened.
Gen 18:8? and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. He stood by them, in the attitude of a servant standing by to serve.
And Zacchaeus showed exactly the same spirit of hospitality ?as he entertained Jesus, —- so the Lord Jesus Christ says, “he also is a son of Abraham” ?— he had done the works of Abraham , — he ran, — he hastened, & he stood.
Luk 19:4 And he ran before,
Luk 19:6 ?And he made haste
Luk 19:8 ?And Zacchaeus stood,
So by his works Zacchaeus showed that he was a true son of Abraham.
Luk 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. —- Isn’t that the work of the Priest seeking to save those that are Lost?
So let us draw some lessons for ourselves from this story.
Do we RUN.
To meet Jesus are we active in the truth — do we run to perform the things of the truth.
How do we run the race of life?
1 Co 9:24-26 ?Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize?
So run, that ye may obtain.
Heb 12:1 ” let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Are we enthusiastic & full of a zeal for the Truth are we running that we might obtain the prize.
Are we making HASTE.
2 Pet 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure:
2 Pet 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God,
The time is short, the day of opportunity passes quickly, — let us be urgent & hasten to prepare for the Kingdom.
Do we STAND as a servant ever ready to serve his master?
Are we steadfast & “standing” firm in our conviction & service to God.
Eph 6:13-14 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Eph 6:14 ?Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth,
2 Co 1:24 ?Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
1 Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
Let us RUN, make HASTE & STAND in our service to our God.
